aren't the major colors symbolizing the European Union? (blue and yellow) I think the west here is the UE and a message for a former Soviet Union to join the Union... or at least to accept its values

I remember being a kid and hearing the orginal version by the Village People and not knowing it was some sort of gay anthem. Given that this is the Pet Shop Boys, it's safe to say the undertones have not changed.

@angelfox123456 If their was truth to what you said they would of long ago corrected the issue, that is what you referred to in your comment...it would of long been settled by now. It was a top 10 pop hit back in the mid-ninties in the land down under. There's nothing better than listening to the modern sound in music with a set of headphones on, so enjoy the music & video & don't take it easy already mate. to be honest, i don't think they were trying to mirror reality in this video. although the W probably represents West and they are climbing into the open air? life is peaceful there after all. they can get there on their flying surfboards

Love how they took the Hymn of the Soviet Unoin and used it as the melody. Love the Socialist Realist aesthetics as well.

This definety one of fav videos of all times & goes so vwey well this chart topper. I kinda enjoy The Pet Shop boys, I get off on the lead singers voice, anyway my other certified favorite by this band is "Domino Dancin'", altho a story it has a good video. About goin' west to Vancouver Canada, forget it, i wouldn't say the skies are blue right now, we just had a good bout of wet snow on this, the 12th of march!, & they sing of peaceful...you have to go east of the city for that. Thanks
